Our postdoctoral researcher, Dr. Ekaterina Pronizius shared her insights into the challenges and opportunities of international collaborations in clinical psychology.
Dr. Pronizius highlighted the difficulties of such collaborations, including navigating differing ethical requirements, privacy laws, and diagnostic standards across countries.
Clinical psychology needs big team science but it’s very hard to do.
International collaborations are essential for understanding cultural influences on mental health. For example, country-specific factors like institutional trust or social cohesion can affect the risk for psychological disorders. Such research is most impactful when collaborators work together from the start, using standardized measurements and outcomes to ensure comparability.
Despite the challenges, Dr. Pronizius finds this work energizing.
There are a lot of experts who are really motivated to be part of these collaborations, despite the difficulties.
These efforts promise to bridge gaps between academic research and practical applications, pushing the field of psychology to new frontiers.
